Candida Home Remedies for Vaginitis

Candida albicans is a fungus that normally lives in our bodies. Why, then, does it cause so much suffering in some women? Candida albicans naturally thrives in our gut as part of our intestinal flora. The problem starts when it out-numbers the friendly bacteria in our intestines. When this happens, one of the common results is vaginitis, an inflammation of the vagina. Symptoms include itching and pain.

The crucial balance between good or friendly bacteria and Candida albicans can be brought about a number of things, including: overuse of antibiotics, birth control pills, spermicides, hormone replacement therapy, douching with chemicals, and small cuts in the vaginal walls from using tampons or shaving. Pregnancy and diabetes can also cause hormonal shifts that encourage the growth of Candida albicans, leading to vaginitis.

Medical doctors commonly treat vaginitis using topical creams. However, there are home remedies that can ease symptoms or even clear the fungal infection altogether. These can be safely used either alone or along with other treatments:

Ventilation

Moisture encourages yeast to grow. Try sleeping without panties to ensure maximum air circulation. Also make sure your underwear is made of breathable fabric, such as cotton. Wear skirts rather than pants. If you must wear jeans, make sure they are not too tight and skip the panty hose.

No Powders

Don’t use any kind of powder on your genital area. Powders are typically made up of starch, which yeast loves.

Also avoid douches with chemical washes, contraceptive jellies and sprays or anything else that you have to place at or near your genital area. Use plain clean water to wash yourself, or add a little organic apple cider vinegar, which will add good bacteria. Don’t think you need anything else; the vagina cleans itself naturally.
